Soul of Aging Introduction

The Soul of Aging: Introduction Tuesday, September 22, 2026 10:30 am - 12:00 pm (Central) On Zoom With Julie Chalk and Suzanna Green Followed by 4 weekly meetings, Tuesdays through Oct. 20 (same time) for those who wish to go deeper. What is The Soul of Aging? Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt In this program, we will creatively approach “the art” of aging intentionally and some of the soulful invitations our maturing years offer us. In a time when so many of us are entering the last season of our lives, we are excited to offer this abbreviated curriculum (5 sessions, instead of 10), developed for those who yearn to understand, surrender to, and be transformed by the aging process. The themes address many of the spiritual aspects of this season of our lives and include: our visions of aging, living our unlived lives, and pathways to wholeness. We will use poetry, story, personal reflection, and optional sharing to explore these topics, all within the fellowship of a trustworthy community. This is an experienced based journey, not a content-driven class. There will be no preparation required for each session other than to come with an open mind and heart. (A personal journal or notebook is also recommended.) What is a Circle of Trust? Based on the pioneering work of Dr. Parker J. Palmer, the Circle of Trust® approach has been developed by the Center for Courage & Renewal to create a safe, confidential, and sacred space where participants support each another by listening deeply to one another and creating spaces that are safe for honest sharing and self-discovery. It is okay to participate in the introductory session and not attend the follow-up meetings. We realize that this series is not for everyone! However, due to the incremental nature of the meetings, which build from one to the next, it is not appropriate to attend the follow-up groups without having attended the introductory session. In addition, if you choose to participate in the series, we ask that you commit (to the degree possible) to attending every session. If this is not possible, then you may want to consider participating at a different time. There is no fee for this series. Program Facilitators: Julie Raymond Chalk, MSSA, has been a facilitator for several years with Spirituality for the Wisdom Years through the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. She spent her social work career working in the field of aging and caregiving, and is passionate about spiritual growth in the last third of life. Suzanna Green is the Director of Christian Formation for the Diocese of West TX. Suzanna has been leading Christian Formation at the diocesan level for 5 years and has experience facilitating both spiritual formation and training groups both in-person and online. Suzanna will be the zoom facilitator of this group. Both Suzanna and Julie have been trained in using the Soul of Aging Curriculum, written by Georgia Noble and Caryl Casbon, both with the Center for Courage and Renewal.
