Camps + Conferences Update
By Rob Watson, Director
When the Diocese of West Texas opened the doors at Camp Capers in the summer of 1947, a tradition began - a diocesan camps program rooted in Christian faith, love, and community.
The gifts of land where each of our camps stand – acts of great generosity – are a beautiful blessing to our diocese. Each of the three camps – Camp Capers in the Hill Country, Mustang Island Conference Center on the beach, and Duncan Park in the Colorado Mountains offer beautiful and natural settings for camps and retreats year-round.
As the Camps + Conferences program has grown through the years, the commitment to the foundational values of Christian faith, love, and community, has remained true. Additionally, the commitment to safety and transparency is the highest priority. Each year, our youth camps, Camp Capers and Duncan Park, are accredited by the American Camps Association, undergoing a rigorous evaluation to help ensure our programs are safe, nurturing, and welcoming experiences for campers and retreat participants.
Our camp staff is highly experienced and trained, many staffers are former campers who return year after year to serve as counselors or camp support staff.
2026 Camps + Conferences Registration
Registration for Mid-Winter and Summer Camp sessions opened on November 1. Additionally, our camp facilities host retreats, church gatherings, and meetings for organizations. These sessions and days for retreats fill up quickly so be sure to register early for your camp sessions and schedule retreats and meetings as soon as possible to ensure your spot.
Open houses are held regularly and individual tours of our Texan camp facilities are available. Feel free to contact me and our camp directors for any questions or information:
