The Hunger Initiative supporting Trinity Episcopal School’s “Backpack Bags” and St. Philip’s Food Bank in association with the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent are designated as Council in Action Recipients of 2026

Council in Action is a giving program that occurs in association with the annual Council of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. It is an opportunity for the Diocese of West Texas members and Council participants to serve a community within the diocese, by opening our hearts and walking as God has called us to assist those in need.

Council in Action will partner with St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and School, Beeville, St. Francis Episcopal Church, Victoria, and Trinity Episcopal Church and School, Victoria, to spread God’s love in a tangible way to their communities through donations. St. Philip’s portion will be given to the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent in Victoria for St. Philip’s Food Bank distribution center in Berclair. St. Francis and Trinity’s portions will impact identified students within the Victoria Independent School District, in whom Trinity School has cultivated a devoted relationship.

Council in Action’s ministry will aid the growing Trinity Episcopal School’s Hunger Bag Initiative. This student-led service project is dedicated to addressing food insecurity in the Victoria community. With the help of Trinity School families and students, they packed an incredible 2770 “backpack bags” during the past school year. Each bag represents a child who did not go hungry over the weekend. The mission aims to teach compassion, responsibility, and the power of service. By working together, students learn firsthand that even small acts of kindness have a lasting impact on the lives of others. We encourage congregations to consider the impact of a “backpack bag” created and shared in their own communities.

We invite participants from each church to bring the following items with them to Council to support Hunger Relief.
