Ministry Spotlight: Latino + Immigration Ministries

Ready, Set, GO!

It’s been a busy season for the diocesan Latino +Immigration Ministries. Following the announcement of our transition, the last several months have moved at lightning speeds. Below is a glimpse into what we’ve been working on:

·     Launched virtual and in-person immigration court monitoring and accompaniment programs

·     Began developing a diocesan Latino Ministries Archive

·     Hosted a diocesan Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with St. George, San Antonio

·     Co-produced the diocesan Lent podcast, Let Love be Genuine, in English and Spanish with the Christian Formation department

·     Offered a workshop at council led by the Rev.Nancy Frausto, Director of Latinx Studies and Lecturer in Multicultural Ministries at Seminary of the Southwest

·     Established a diocesan mutual aid Immigrant Crisis Relief Fund and provided case management support and grant funds to families from two churches

·     Accompanied church members from the Episcopal Dioceses of Washington and Minnesota upon release from detention in South Texas

And we are just getting started. Over the next several months, I will be visiting many of our churches to spend time in their communities and provide support as they begin or expand their Latino ministry. We will invite more churches to participate in the virtual and in-person monitoring and accompaniment programs and will share the details of several other initiatives in the works. Stay tuned and mark your calendars to join usat one of the upcoming events below!
