Discerning God’s Call: Exploring Formation Paths

By The Venerable Mike Besson
Archdeacon of West Texas
What is my calling and how do I discern it? These can be difficult questions to answer and yet, each one of us have a calling that is God ordained. If you have ever asked yourself these questions but don’t know what your calling might be, or if you don’t know where or how to begin prayerfully discerning the calling that God has placed on your heart, then you are invited to come to our first Discovery Weekend that will be held on November 14th and 15th at the Bishop Jones Center in San Antonio. The weekend will be all about conversations around discernment and calling; how do we hear God’s voice? What does God’s voice sound like? What might God be calling me to do and how can I know for sure? We will explore the discernment process for those who may feel called to ordained ministry (priests and deacons), the formation paths for each, and the different ways in which those vocations can be lived out. We will also explore discernment and calling for lay persons and how we might live that out as well. Those in attendance may be sensing a particular call or may be in the discernment process already. Others may come with nothing more than a curiosity about discernment and calling. Regardless of where you are, you will be blessed by the weekend that will be facilitated by our Bishops, ordained priests and deacons, and lay leaders from across the Diocese.
We look forward to welcoming you as we engage in holy conversations, eat some good food, and fellowship and connect with one another. Our hope is that the weekend will help you begin your path of discernment, or that it will be an invaluable piece of the discernment you may already be doing.
