The diocesan Department of Communications strives to connect individuals to the life and activates of the diocese, to communicate essential information for full engagement with diocesan ministries, and to provide support to diocesan ministries and congregational communications.
Welcome to Advent: Stories of Movement and Migration. This study was created by the Christian Formation, Latino + Immigration, and Small Church Ministries of the Diocese of West Texas. Below you will find all the resources you need to listen to the podcast episodes and discuss this series with your congregation or study group.
Each episode is 30-40 minutes long and includes scripture, story, and theological reflection. If you have any questions about these resources or are looking for additional Advent materials please email Suzanna Green, Director of Christian Formation at formation@dwtx.org.
54th Annual Diocesan Silent Retreat
Every year since 1972, The Diocese of West Texas Retreat Society has convened a Silent Retreat for Men and Women. This annual Retreat is the oldest continuous non-parochial ministry in the Diocese and the only Diocesan retreat where silence is the primary spiritual practice.
The 2025 retreat will be held at Mustang Island Conference Center, Port Aransas November 13- 16 and the Retreat Conductor will be the Rev. Rich Nelson, St. Peter's, Kerrville.
Rev. Nelson is an Episcopal priest, writer, spiritual director, and speaker. He currently serves as the Founding Director of The Community of Saints Francis and Clare, an intentional discipleship community for people in their 20s and early 30s who live a life of prayer, study, and service, located at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Kerrville, Texas. Learn more at www.revrichnelson.com .
For more information or to request financial aid, contact Rilda Baker, drrildabaker@gmail.com or 210-422-9459.
Visit dwtx.org/events for more information and to register for the retreat.
Happenings are spiritual renewal weekends for older high school students, led by their peers. Any student in the 10th grade through 12th grade can attend. A small number of adults may also attend. Weekends tend to fill quickly, so don't delay! You will receive detailed information about the weekend via email after you register. Each Happening begins Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. sharp, and wraps up around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. It is a lock-in, so prepare to stay the entire weekend.
Registration for first-time Happeners will be limited. A waiting list will be closely monitored, as usual, to make sure that if anyone becomes unable to attend the next person in line is invited to register.
The registration cost is $60, and a deposit must be paid to confirm your registration. Scholarships are available.
Please email the Happening Advisory Board Chair, at dwtxhappening@gmail.com, for scholarship information or other questions.

There are two Cursillo retreats planned for the fall. Cursillo (a Spanish word meaning "little course") gives church members the tools and "rules of life" to enthusiastically share the joys of knowing Christ with others in their everyday environments. Cursillo is patterned on Jesus' own example. He searched out and called groups of potential leaders, trained them and sent them out to bring the world to Him.The Cursillo weekend begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. During the weekend, participants engage in study, reflection, fellowship, and worship.
Cursillo #297
Mustang Island Conference Center | October 9 - 12
Cursillo #298
Camp Capers | November 6 - 9
