Ministry Focus: Threads of Blessing

The following update about the Threads of Blessing Ministry, was submitted to us by the director, Helen Schnelzer. Threads of Blessing teaches embroidery and design, quality control and marketability of tapestries to hundreds Ugandan women.

The Threads of Blessing ministry will sell tapestries embroidered by Ugandan women on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel House at the Bishop Jones Center, 111 Torcido Drive in San Antonio. The price of many pieces will be greatly reduced.

As mentioned above, a reception honoring Sunday Dhugira, Director of Threads of Blessing, Uganda, will be held at the Chapel House on Friday, April 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please join us in hearing her testimony on how the ministry has changed women's lives in Uganda. Sunday will be in the Diocese of West Texas from April 4 – 18.

Until last year, Sunday was also the Principal at the Women’s Vocational Training Center in Nebbi Diocese. However, as Threads of Blessing has grown, she received a promotion from her bishop to the position of Director, with the instructions to hire a new Principal and devote her time to the ministry.

Sunday recently completed a three-week tour of Uganda, visiting over 800 women in 28 Threads of Blessing groups nationwide. Funds received from US sales are transferred to Uganda for distribution to each recipient artist. These visits bring great joy. During her most recent tour, Sunday was joined by three group and artistic leaders, long-time members of Threads of Blessing. They shared ideas and encouraged the women.

Sunday says,"... women hunger for knowledge to better their lives. You don’t know what the ministry is doing to the women financially, spiritually, and socially. God’s blessing upon everyone who donates to facilitate our programs.”

Since the first workshop in 2005, Threads of Blessing has returned $285,000 to the women in proceeds from the sale of their embroidery and provided $235,000 in scholarships for women to attend the annual conference and workshop in Nebbi, Uganda.
