New Lodges at Mustang Island Conference Center Near Completion

After construction began in Fall 2021 on Mustang Island Conference Center's chapel and additional housing, Rob Watson, Director of Camps and Conferences, and Kevin Spaeth, Mustang Island Conference Center Director, are happy to report that the new lodge will be ready for Mustang Island Family Camp 2022, beginning with Session 1 in June.

Equipped with ten larger rooms and two meeting spaces, the lodge will add versatility to the conference center, allowing it to host multiple small groups and give larger groups more break-out spaces. Following a meeting with the Waves of Growth & Promise construction architects earlier this month, walls are being painted, flooring installed, and tile is going up in the bathrooms. By the end of April, the building will be complete and ready for furniture to arrive in early May.

Work on the gorgeous open-air chapel continues to progress. The pilings are in place, the roof is going on, and the deck is being built. Standing on the deck, the beauty of God's coastal creation surrounds you with unobstructed views over the dunes to the Gulf of Mexico. The new 180-seat chapel will be the only outdoor chapel on Mustang Island and should be completed by the end of June. As with all facilities at Mustang Island Conference Center, the chapel and lodge are designed to accommodate the delicately balanced ecosystem, endure the powerful weather systems of a barrier island, and complement the beauty of our island home.

We look forward to welcoming more families than ever before this summer at Mustang Island Family Camp! Sign up online for a weekend of rest, reflection, and renewal at your island home, at dwtx.org/micc, or contact the conference center to book your retreat today.

As the end of construction approaches, you can be a part of legacy of this special place.
