2020 Staycation Bible School Curriculum
Christian Formation Committee Releases Staycation Bible School Curriculum for Families
The Christian Formation Committee of the Diocese of West Texas offers a seven-session Staycation Bible School inspired by "The Very Best Day: The Way of Love for Children", a children's book written and illustrated by Roger Hutchison. The 2020 Staycation Bible School is a curriculum designed for families to connect with God at home over the summer.
The curriculum is designed so that families can explore one topic each day for a week or spread out the lessons during the summer. The study topics follow The Way of Love: Practices for a Jesus-Centered Life, from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, and include stories and activities that will teach children to Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest. Activities for each session include prayers, video lessons, crafts, songs, family activities, and games that are rooted in the lesson's theme. A different children’s minister from throughout the diocese will lead each video, so that children will get to spend time with different formation leaders each session.
In order to fully participate in the curriculum, families will need to use the following materials:
- “The Very Best Day” book by Roger Hutchison and published by Church Publishing, 2020. The book is available for purchase online, in paperback or in ebook format from Church Publishing Inc., Apple, Amazon, and the GooglePlay store.
- The Staycation Bible School Outline (PDF) provided by the Christian Formation Committee. The packet includes materials needed, song lists, and detailed lesson plans for each of the seven study sessions.
- Video Lessons provided online by the Christian Formation Committee on the diocesan Vimeo account.
The Christian Formation Committee serves the 87 worshipping communities in the Diocese of West Texas, providing Christian formation resources and guidance to congregations in forming disciples of all ages.
