Webinar: Let's Talk about Sponsoring Asylum-Seeking Families & Individuals
"Let's Talk About Sponsoring Asylum-Seeking Individuals and Families" is a webinar, Wednesday, August 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., providing more information about long-term sponsorship for asylum-seekers, co-hosted by diocesan Immigration Ministries and the Evangelical Lutheran Church's Southwestern Texas Synod, in partnership with the Interfaith Welcome Coalition, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, and Texas Border Collaboration Network.
There are people who could be considered for release from the immigration detention centers right now, except that they do not have an individual or group willing to shelter and accompany them while they await their asylum hearing. Together, we can change that!
Becoming a sponsor is the deepest expression of solidarity with those who have fled their home to escape violence and economic hardship. Congregational mission teams and other community groups are ideal sponsors for immigrants. It is both joyful and challenging to engage in a sponsoring relationship. The length of commitment is from 6 months to a year. Mobilizing a team to support the many aspects of sponsorship ensures that both the guests and the hosts build a strong working relationship.
Please join the discussion and learn if you are being called to this special service. Speakers will include those who have sponsored in the past and other representatives who can answer questions about sponsorship and the asylum process.
