We Will Continue Gatherings: September 18th and 25th
The Rt. Rev. David Reed, Bishop of West Texas, invites and encourages all clergy and laity to attend the "We Will Continue" Gathering in their convocation, offered in their area, either September 18 or 25.
As our churches continue to re-emerge and regroup from the COVID pandemic, each Gathering will give us opportunities to celebrate being together, to consider the hardships and challenges endured, to explore lessons learned and blessings gained, and to look toward ways we can live and serve faithfully going forward.
The clergy appointed as Deans of the seven convocations will serve as moderators of each Gathering, assisted by members of the diocesan Executive Board and diocesan staff. These intentional conversations will assist us in forming the questions each congregation needs to be considering about their life together: worship, fellowship, education and formation, and ministries out into the community.
Time will be given to reflect upon what has been lost and learned, personally and communally, during the pandemic. We will also dream together about the new opportunities for ministry that God is showing us, and strategies for reclaiming and revitalizing beloved traditions.
Bishop Reed said, “There are no experts to show us how to be the Church post-pandemic. What we do have is one another—the people of our 87 congregations with common concerns and hard-earned wisdom. The Gatherings are planned so that good and faithful people—people who love God’s Church—can get together in the same room and talk and listen to one another.
In every parish and mission I’ve been in this year, the questions, hopes and anxieties have been about how we will continue being the Church where we are. This is a great chance to sit down together and have that conversation. I expect the Spirit to move and the light of Christ to shine. These are not strategic planning meetings—there’s not enough time on these Saturdays—but my hope is that those present will want to continue these conversations in more concrete ways afterward. I encourage as strongly as I can all clergy and lay leaders to participate and to bring others with them.”
Each We Will Continue Gathering will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m. with light refreshments. Congregations are encouraged to RSVP using the link below, to help prepare seating and snacks. A second set of Gatherings will take place Saturday, September 25, hosted by three other West Texas churches.
