Mustang Island Spirit of Water Retreat
Spirit of Water - Finding a Practice of Finding God in Creation
Mustang Island Conference Center has long been a spiritual home on the island for the Diocese of West Texas. Through hospitality, opportunities for reflection, and an experience with the joy and wonder of creation, this special place has allowed us to renew our bodies, minds, and spirits. Have you ever wanted to find ways to take the island with you in your daily spiritual life? This weekend retreat is an opportunity to explore creation themed practices into our own communities, no matter how far inland they may be. Using practices of contemplative prayer combined with reflections on the role of water in our scriptures, our traditions, and cultures around the world; this retreat will give participants an opportunity to experience our island home in new ways.
The weekend will consist of time for reflection, keynote presentations, exploration in creation, and take home practices for your own communities. Who should attend? Anyone who has an interest in finding a deeper connection to God in Creation, anyone interested in creation care and environmental stewardship, curious seekers who like to find connection in nature, people who love to find joy and wonder at our diocesan retreat on Mustang Island. This retreat is open to adults, with special scholarships for college students and young adults.
The Rev. Dr. Ben Nelson, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Marcos, is the leader for the weekend. He has been actively involved in supporting the Environmental Stewardship group at St. Mark’s, in learning and modeling creation care. Ben’s doctoral project from the University of the South is called “Spirit of Water, Spirit of Aloha” and is the basis for this weekend. The retreat hopes to bring people into their own connections with God in Creation and the life of Christ through the waters of baptism.
Registration will cost $320 for a Single Occupancy room and $260 for a Double Occupancy room.
