Committees

Much of the work of the diocese is carried out through the various committees, commissions, departments, and divisions. Our diocesan members are generous with their time and expertise in serving on these groups -- many as volunteers.

  • The Books of Remembrance and Thanksgiving are ways to honor and remember those who have died or to give thanks for special persons or special events in our lives; donations made to these books help fund scholarships for seminarians in the Diocese of West Texas.

  • Camps and Conferences Department: visit the department page to learn about the diocesan camping ministry which is supported by Program and Site Committees for Camp Capers, Mustang Island Conference Center, and Duncan Park.
  • Church Pension Fund

  • Clergy Spouses throughout the diocese join together for fellowship, service, and retreat. Click the link above to connect to this dynamic group.

  • College Missions Department: visit the department page to learn about weekly Vital UM worship services on five campuses within the diocese, outdoor adventure programming, and retreats for college students.

  • The Commission on Ministry (COM) includes the Compensation Committee, Continuing Education Committee, Discernment Committee, and Examining Chaplains Committee. For more information about these committees, email Laura Woodall, Executive Assistant to the Bishop.

  • Church Buildings, Commission reviews and approves plans to alter current church buildings or to build new structures. 

  • The Constitution and Canons Committee maintains and supports the governing documents of the Diocese of West Texas. 

  • The Cursillo Secretariat helps lead the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas Cursillo. 

  • Disaster Response, Commission: visit the Commission on Disaster Response page for updated needs and ongoing diocesan responses to local and national emergencies. 

  • The Daughters of the King seeks to extend Christ's Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism. 

  • The Diocesan Altar Guild provides support and resources for altar guilds throughout the diocese.

  • Diocesan Development Steering Committee provides leadership and raises funds for development projects within the diocese and includes sub-committees for Camps and Conferences and for New Church Planting.

  • Ecumenical Stewardship

  • Environmental Stewardship is part of the Christian Faith in Action Department. Contact committee chair, Ann Walsh, for more information.

  • Episcopal Church Foundation in West Texas was created by the Diocese of West Texas to invest and manage the funds of the diocese, to be an investment resource to churches and diocesan institutions, and to encourage and promote legacy stewardship within the diocese.   • Episcopal Relief and Development Fund

  • Episcopal Schools Commission

  • The Evangelism Committee provides partnership, mentoring, and tools for local congregations seeking to reach their surrounding community with the good news of Christ's love. 

  • Faith Alive

  • The Finance Department handles daily and annual financial operations for the diocese.

  • Habitat Builders for West Texas works with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates to build homes for our neighbors in need, as part of the Christian Faith in Action Department.

  • The Historical Commission collects, archives, and makes available important documents as well as the history of the diocese and its churches.

  • Insurance Committee

  • Kairos Prison Ministry is part of the Christian Faith in Action Department.

  • Leadership Development Committee

  • Liturgy and Music Commission plans and provides liturgy and music resources and learning opportunities for diocesan congregations.

  • The Military Ministry seeks to provide resources and inspiration to churches that want to support the military members and veterans in their congregations and communities. 

  • Reconciliation Commission

  • Recovery Ministries informs and assists clergy, lay church members, and our communities in the area of addiction problems and recovery. A bi-annual Spiritual Retreat in Recovery is hosted at the diocesan camps and conference centers. 

  • Scholarship Committee 

  • The Stewardship Department provides resources and hosts diocesan continuing education events supporting and encouraging stewardship on the local and diocesan level.

  • Texas Conferences of Churches is an association of Protestant denominations (including the Episcopal Church), the Catholic Church, and the Eastern Orthodox church, forty-nine groups in all, with a total of over three million members in Texas.

  • TMI Episcopal is the flagship private school in the Diocese of West Texas and provides an exceptional education with values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ that challenge motivated students to develop their full potential in service and leadership.

  • The United Thank Offering invites people to offer daily prayers of thanksgiving to God and outward and visible signs of those prayers which will benefit others.

  • Women's Ministries (C4WM), Commission works to foster active communication, spiritual enrichment, and education among women of the Episcopal Church with Christ as the center. 

  • The World Mission Department seeks to engage every member and every church of the diocese in the work of evangelism and mission.
