Rom. 8:28-39; John 6:52-59

May we always remember:
God loved us before we were born and made all of creation for our enjoyment;
God is our shepherd and will lead us, if we follow;
God is our source of our strength, if we will admit that we need help;
God justifies our actions, if we live by His word;
God lives in us if we ask him to (whether we think we deserve it or not);

And lastly, we were made in His image, for his enjoyment and so that we could reverently come into His presence with thanksgiving and joyfully sing His praises in this life and the next.
Every time we come to the table, we invite Jesus in and allow Him in to work through us.
We will be sustained not temporarily, but permanently, as we allow his power to edify us.
A familiar hymn by James Montgomery poetically frames some of the salient points of these lessons:

Be known to us in breaking bread,
But do not then depart;
Savior, abide with us, and spread
Thy table in our heart.
There eat with us in love divine;
Thy body and Thy blood,
That living bread, that heavenly wine,
Be our immortal food.
