February 9 - 2012 Payne Lecture and the Campaign for Leadership will be held at Seminary of the Southwest in Austin on Thursday, February 9, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Knapp Auditorium. The 2012 Payne Lecture will feature James "Jay" Magness, Bishop Suffragan for the Armed Services and Federal Ministries, and his topic will be: "Moral Leadership in the Temple and Public Square: Missional Requirements for a New Era." The evening will include an announcement of The Campaign for Leadership and celebration of the generous donors who have made gifts in the quiet phase of the campaign. February 11 - St. Helena's in Boerne will offer a Quiet Day on Saturday, February 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the Daughters of the King. Led by featured speaker Jamie George, this retreat will guide participants on a journey to discover the burdens that keep them from the abundant life that God has designed. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as childcare. February 12 - Santa Fe Episcopal Church, San Antonio, will host a Quarter Frenzy on Sunday, February 12, from noon to 3:00 p.m. All are invited to attend and bring quarters to bid on all sorts of items provided by vendors, including Pampered Chef, Mary Kay cosmetics, Tupperware, jewelry, and much more. Raffle tickets for gift baskets will be available for purchase as well, all with quarters. Santa Fe Church will be selling gourmet hamburgers and chips for $4 and Valentine's Day cakes for $10. February 21 - St. Boniface, Comfort, will host a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Comfort Park Paviion. The Mark Bros. Band will provide musical entertainment. There is no admission fee; and donations will be gratefully accepted.
February 24-25 - St. Andrew’s, San Antonio, will host an Order of St. Luke’s (OSL) Healing Mission on Friday evening, February 24, through Saturday afternoon, February 25. February 23-26 - "Come and See" will be held at the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, for interested postulants or those in the discernment process. "Come & See" visitation weekend is a great way for prospective students to get a feel for the seminary, its educational offerings, faculty, and students. March 1-23 - St. Mark's, San Antonio, will host their Lenten Luncheons on Thursdays and Fridays, March 1-23, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Celebrating 61 years of the Lenten Luncheons, the theme this year is "Eat Out to Reach Out." March 3 - St. Francis, San Antonio, is hosting its third annual Renaissance Faire on Saturday, March 3, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It's a merrie weekend in 1565 in the tiny village of St. Francis-upon-the-hill, England, with games, music, Maypole dancing, puppet shows, and authentic 16th-century food. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for people in period costume, and $1 for children 10 and under. The festivities continue Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. with an Elizabethan Mass direct from the 1559 Book of Common Prayer. Space is still available for vendors and performers. March 4-8 - The Oblate School of Theology will present their third annual Contemplative Retreat entitled "People of Pilgrimage: The Holy Longing" beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, and continuing through to noon on Thursday, March 8. This retreat will be led by the Rev. Ron Rolheiser, Roman Catholic priest, a member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, and current president of Oblate. Registration cost is $360 per person, including meals. Lodging is available for an additional charge. March 11 - The San Antonio Community of Congregations will sponsor the 29th Annual San Antonio CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, March 11. Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. at Comanche Park #2 (2600 Rigsby Avenue). CROP Hunger Walks are community fundraising events sponsored by Church World Service, an international relief, development, and refugee resettlement agency. Funds raised by the walks nationwide are used by CWS to provide food, medical care, disaster relief, and self-help development for needy people around the world. March 26-31 - A six-day workshop on icon art will involve the study of the Byzantine Russian tradition of icon writing, March 26-31, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., daily, at the Church of Reconciliation, San Antonio (8900 Starcrest, 78217). April 27 - Trinity by the Sea, Port Aransas, will host their 4th annual benefit golf tournament on Friday, April 27, at Newport Dunes Golf Course in Port Aransas. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Player fees are $125 per player, which includes a box lunch and a light dinner along with beverages. There are sponsorships available for $100, $250, $500, and $1000, which include player fees. June 20-23 - The 15th annual Dallas Benedictine Monastic Experience will take place at the Catholic Conference and Formation Center in Dallas, from Wednesday, June 20 through Saturday, June 23. Participants will live on the campus of the center for four days, forming a temporary monastic community to experience the balanced way of life of the Rule of St. Benedict.
