Founded in 1893 as West Texas Military Academy, TMI is the oldest Episcopal college preparatory school in the Southwest. Since its inception, TMI’s mission has remained committed to academic excellence as well as the formation of Christian character. A TMI education is based on the four pillars of Spirituality, Academics, Athletics, and Military.
In 2005, the TMI Board of Governors embarked on a purposeful expansion. A study of the campus revealed sufficient land for an enrollment of 600. The first step toward that expansion was the addition of two new residence halls, bringing to 34 the total of residential students. The school enrolls an additional 310 day students.
At the same time, the Board determined a strong need for a chapel on campus. Currently the student body and faculty
meet in the dining hall each morning for chapel services. Plans are now underway for a 500-seat chapel with three classrooms in the lower level that will help accommodate the school’s growth and enrich the student experience. In addition to daily services, the chapel will serve as a venue for choral concerts, selected theater arts presentations, Baccalaureate, the Daunt Lecture Series, and other special programs. The first phase of the plan is to increase school enrollment to 400 students. To reach this first goal, TMI has embarked on a multi-million dollar capital campaign for the chapel, classrooms and endowment. Our goal of $2.75 million embraces not only the Chapel, but also an additional residence hall, and a scholarship endowment. This $2.75 million is included in TMI’s broader campaign.
Throughout all of its endeavors, TMI is committed to being guided along the paths that Christ has commanded for his Church and his people.
