Recovery Ministries

Mission Statement - Inform and assist the clergy and laity of the Diocese of West Texas in the area of addiction problems and recovery

Download our overview brochure

Purpose Statement: The Diocesan Commission on Recovery Ministries recognizes that alcoholism, drug dependency, co-dependency, eating disorders and other addictions affect many persons in our Diocese. We believe that shame about these diseases, combined with a lack of information about addiction and knowledge of resources, keeps many people from receiving the help and treatment that is available. We are committed to reducing the shame and offering hope through on-going awareness and education in this Diocese. We will stay informed about community resources and offer referral assistance when needed. We will offer emotional and spiritual support for those persons who are struggling with addiction problems themselves, in family members or friends. Confidentiality is paramount with this ministry.

Mission Plan: To encourage and help congregations to have a Recovery Sunday every year, with Commission members being present for them; to offer educational materials on addiction, including a prevention curriculum aimed at youth and their parents; to provide speakers knowledgeable in the field of addiction; to be available to help those suffering from addiction or those in recovery to find the support they need; to reach out to the unchurched within the recovery community, especially through our semi-annual Spiritual Retreat; and to participate actively in Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church.

We are in the Business of:

  • Raising the level of awareness about the disease of addiction within the Diocese
  • Supporting the clergy of the Diocese in dealing with addiction in their congregations
  • Supporting recovering persons in the work of their recovery
  • Helping those in need of recovery find appropriate help
  • Being a resource for information about addiction
  • Being a part of the solution to developing healthy people

We can do that by:

  • Encouraging and helping congregations to have a Recovery Sunday every year
  • Being present at Recovery Sundays
  • Being a source of educational material on the subject of addiction
  • Providing speakers knowledgeable in the field of addiction
  • Being available, individually or as a group, to help those suffering from addiction or those in recovery to find the support they need
  • Reaching out to the unchurched within the recovery community
  • Active participation in Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church
