Mustang Island Conference Center
Goal: $5.414 million
Mustang Island Conference Center is designed to host meaningful retreats and educational programs year-round. Religious organizations of all denominations (in addition to Episcopalian), educational institutions and non-profit service organizations may reserve the Center, which is located in the midst of the beautiful coastal prairie habitat of the South Texas Gulf Coast. The Center hosts visitors from Texas and across the United States.
The soothing Gulf Coast environment found at Mustang Island calms the spirits of visitors. Today, people are losing touch with nature as our world becomes more urban, and business and informal communications become more electronic, requiring constant attention to computers and related work indoors. Mustang Island Conference Center provides a healthy alternative location for meetings of special importance.
Events hosted at the Center help change lives for the better. Clergy, civic leaders and families – young and old and of all denominations – seek to strengthen their ministries and to learn from one another at the Center. Meetings often focus on improving communication, building leadership skills, reviewing and refining organizational missions, promoting teamwork, and improving operational success overall. Ultimately, organizations that send their employees and volunteers to Mustang Island Conference Center strengthen their respective organizations and the communities they serve, creating a positive ripple effect throughout the world.
The Center’s award-winning master plan was developed by Richter Architects of Corpus Christi. The facilities are considered model examples of sustainable architecture, and were featured during a prestigious U.S. Department of Defense conference, “The 21st Century Outlook: Economic and Environmental Balance.” Virtually every aspect of the Center’s construction is “environmentally friendly.”
Our guest list is impressive. Among the many organizations that have enjoyed the “holy hospitality” of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas at Mustang Island Conference Center are Congregation Beth Israel; First United Methodist Church; Gardendale Baptist; Mission Prebytery; Roman Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi; and the Southwestern Texas Synod – Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. A few educational institutions include Del Mar College; Sewanee: The University of the South; Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi; Texas A&M University-Kingsville; and The University of Texas Health-Science Center. Other organizations that have conducted meetings at the Center include CHRISTUS Spohn Health System; Council for the Deaf; Corpus Christi Food Bank; Junior League of Corpus Christi; The Nature Conservancy of Texas; Spaulding for Children Adoption Agency; Star Learners; Texans Can!; Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion; Walk to Emmaus; and more.
Ground was broken on the original facilities in 1999. Today, the Diocese is in the midst of raising funds to help expand Mustang Island Conference Center so that more and larger groups may be accommodated.
