Founded as Missionary Diocese of Western Texas in 1874, originally part of the Diocese of Texas, which was established in 1852. Became the Diocese of West Texas in 1904 as an independent diocese of the Episcopal Church.
Bishop is the Rt. Rev. Gary R. Lillibridge. Bishop Suffragan is the Rt. Rev. David M. Reed.
