Christ Chapel, San Marcos

"I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths..." Proverbs 4:11

Christ Chapel, San Marcos
Goal: $1.15 million

The Episcopal DIocese of West Texas and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Southwest Synod have a long commitment to ministry in higher education. Generations of church and secular leaders have been shaped by campus ministry communities of our denominations. As a result, included in the New Church Starts portion of Phase II is Christ Chapel, Inc. Adjacent to the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, this is a two fold effort: The continuing campus ministry known as Higher Ground as well as Christ Chapel Institute.

For three years, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas have worked together in the midst of this bustling college campus of 27,500 students. St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where this ministry is located, will move to a new church facility in 2008 and has agreed to sell the existing church facilities to Christ Chapel, Inc.

On today’s college campuses many cultures, beliefs, and values converge to breed both hope and uncertainty.  In the midst of this diversity lies great promise.  We will bring the Christian tradition to contemporary life by going to and living with our next generation of Christians, and by training new leaders for ministry on college campuses and for youth ministry in congregations. Christ Chapel will be a community of faith, called and empowered by Jesus Christ to transform the church and the world, by the transformation of ministry among young adults in higher education.
