Each summer, more than 1,000 youngsters from all parts of the diocese - Episcopalians and non-Episcopalians - encounter the Risen Christ through worship, teaching, music, fun, and a transforming Christian community established during a week of camp. Mid-winter camps, offered in January recreate this in a weekend experience. These programs at our diocesan camping center -- Camp Capers -- have become the backbone of our youth ministry and have engendered generations of lay and clerical leaders in our diocese. Throughout the year, adults enjoy this same community in retreats, gatherings, and meetings.
We now have an extraordinary opportunity through a gift of land on the Blanco River in Wimberley. Camp Capers
provides the foundation for 9 to 18 year olds. At the new property, known as the Brinsmade Ranch, we can also focus on leadership development for high school aged young people through a wilderness camping program. In addition, families come together at the Mustang Island Conference Center. We can begin to think of our camping program as a lifelong and continuing experience in three locations: Camp Capers, the Brinsmade Ranch and the Mustang Island Conference Center.
Our camping program, though one, can be experienced in three locations and is dedicated to bringing children of all ages to Jesus Christ so that they may reach out into the world in His name.
